Winter

The Anglo Saxons used to count someone’s age by how many winters they had lived and in Old English “anwintre” would mean one year old. Winter is a time to reflect on the year that has passed, to plan a garden or think of family. The land is often wet or windy, perhaps with ice and snow. The tipping point in the flow of seasons, starting anew and clearing the way for new life.

The elemental power of Nature but with a spiritual connection is what I seek as I document the seasons. Hence I use site specific pigments and found tools made from reeds or sticks, perhaps a feather. I do this for the joy of experimenting as much as the spiritual bond with a place and time.

Here and indeed in each of the seasons that are put together as collections, you may find still life works of seasonal flowers and fruits and vegetables.
