This charcoal drawing is part of a body of work that has been focused on the changing seasons over the last few years. Whilst each season does have a unique signature in any given year, there are also elements that are definitely spring, summer, autumn or winter.
I am interested in capturing what it is about each season that stands out as recognisable. This means plenty of walks and drawing, painting and creating, above all though it is about observation and taking the time to observe.
As I drew this I noticed not only the lie of the land as I looked north but the lengthening shadows and the rhythms of the hedgerows and trees.
