Sea Aster in seed
This small pastel drawing was a real delight to make using a macro lens to study these darling little seed heads. The textures and tones really do interplay with one another so well. Please note this work is ready to hang as it is professionally framed, double mounted and glazed.
As part of the Saltmarsh project with the Bioregional Learning Centre, one member of a group of collaborative interdisciplinary artists, I was given small parcels of saltmarsh plant seeds to observe. I was also researching phytomedicine and ethnopharmacology of the various saltmarsh plants and discovered some fascinating information.
I think that if one knows more about the subject it somehow makes the subject more interesting.Much of the potential and historic use of this little plant has resulted from the plant being so tolerant of liminal life in both fresh and salt water.
