Platform
This painting, a view on a train platform is as if one is waving good bye to a passenger starting out on their journey. The work emerged from a sketch I made whilst waiting for a train to get home. It had been a particularly tough day as I remember. I guess I was sort day dreaming as I people watched at the station. I used the sketch at home to make a small mixed collage to establish the composition for a painting. I have put an image of the collage for the viewer to see what I mean.
Platform was chosen by Frances Christie the Head of Modern and Post-war British Art at Sotheby’s in London where she also serves as an auctioneer. Frances chose this work for the Friendship and Community Exhibition (a first virtual exhibition for the award winning Charity Outside In.
Painted in oil on canvas, I wanted to convey a sense period, perhaps of years back. The colours I have used lend a feel of perhaps 1930 or 1940s? A melancholy or nostalgic feel or like the end of a long day and reflecting on it all during a commute home.
