“Forget-Me-Nots”.
A Rembrandt pastel drawing on acid free paper, 420mm x 297mm. These are such a joy to see in the garden as an early Spring covering in the beds. The delicate blue flowers and gorgeous stems are intriguing to draw, they do wilt quickly though. The drawing here meant working swiftly and decisively to capture these little flashes of blue on their delicate stems which are slender with tiny hairs.
How stuff works “They also symbolize protection and luck, and it's believed that they have the power to protect humans against witches. King Henry IV of England used this flower symbol as his lucky charm during his exile in 1398, the myosotis sylvatica became his very symbol after he returned with them.”
The idea of drawing regular still life compositions for me anyway, is that not only does this mean one is practising drawing. But just as importantly working on composition, both these skills are key for drawing landscapes when out walking, or still lifes.
