The shapes of the flowers, set in the ceramic vase against the pentagonal shaped blue salad bowl appealed to me. The rose grows in the small garden outside my studio, a shrub rose from David Austin named Gentle Hermione. The garden at this time of the year is filled with the sound of insects, the trees are in fruit, the blackcurrant and raspberry too. The purple pink chives and arches of the Salvia flowers catch the June sunshine.

The pleasure of drawing and making; the sound of the chalk pastel as I make marks on the Fabriano paper, it has dull sound and then there  are the tinkle of the crumbles of pigment falling on to the wooden easel lip. The extra treat whilst  was the scent, which is described by David Austin as “a strong, warm myrrh fragrance”, you have my word it is delicious! I adore the sensory interplay of doing something creative.
