Bristol steps at Templemeads
This mixed media work is from a sketch I made whilst in Bristol Templemeads. The steps, the sculpture and architecture intrigued me. I shall be using these drawings and mixed media to make large paintings of the city using bold colours and generous shapes one against another.
Emerging from a whirlwind of colour and texture, this work presents a resplendent scene that feels simultaneously familiar and abstract. The warm earth tones, set against cool aquamarine hues, conjure an impression of architectural grandeur bathed in dappled sunlight. Every mark aims to interlock, creating a web where both lines and form describe appear the archways and structures against rough-hewn walls.
The arrangement of colours and forms reflects the artist’s understanding of spatial relationships, offering a play of light and shadow without relying on literal interpretations. As time progresses, one anticipates how this evocative piece will continue to engage viewers, revealing new layers of intrigue with each closer inspection.
