Repose
This is one of three drawings that were created at the reed bed on Sharpham Marsh. I use the materials that are on site, the soil and the water. For “tools” there are reed stems and fallen leaves or seed heads, all might be employed to initiate these works. This practice brings me closer to my subject, the landscape and the seasons. A sense of place is provided by holding in one’s hand the cold autumn soil. Using the foliage that is dying back to make marks across the surface.
It is an opportunity to reflect on the seasons and listen to the place that I find myself being part of, at one with. Using all of the senses to build the experience of being at a particular place at a certain time.
If you look carefully at the detail provided you can see the use of site specific pigment that gives connection and a texture on the surface of the work.
