Reeds in winter
£190.00
The original drawing is on pastel paper using natural pigment, charcoal and pencil. Rembrandt pastels were then used to bring colour and tone to the subject. The Sharpham Marsh is a hauntingly beautiful site on the north bank of the River Dart in Devon.
Drawn on a cold winter day at the end of 2021, looking East across the River in the middle of the reeds.
There are sounds of the tide coming in,not a rush more like muffled footsteps that trickle over the sediment of the saltmarsh. The shapes and abstract patterns emerged in this drawing like frost spreading imperceptibly across a pond or a lake. I let the pencil or charcoal twist in my hand let it lead me across the paper.
