This is a path that I often walk throughout the year, stopping to draw as I go. There are several good spots to sit, which fortunately provide a great source of pigment to draw with.  I love to start these little drawings with gestural marks using site specific pigment. Reaching down and grasping at the soil beneath my feet before touching the surface of the paper and listening to the sound of nature on paper. Feeling the cold earthy lumps as they build a ground on which to work into. The surface of the paper is changed to include part of the very moment and place.

Throughout the year I am taken by the variety of wild life. On this particular occasion it was the drumming of a pair of greater spotted woodpeckers that grabbed my attention, a memory that stayed with me back to the warmth of the studio.

This small drawing is on paper and was drawn at the end of January, it was one my favourite pieces from this little trip, catching the haunting glimpses of winter light.
