Spring promise
Despite the ever falling rain in south Devon since the start of the year, I promised myself to keep getting out there in the landscape to draw. It was wet and windy but some how the rain on ones face is refreshing and allows clarity of mind. I took a rucksack with materials and some fruit and water and headed off to the Dartington estate. This is an uphill walk of about 30 mins with some beautiful winter views along the way. I was looking for the very soft hints that winter maybe coming here soon.
This mixed media drawing was created from the small plein air drawings I had made using found site specific pigments to create bold gestural decisions for the composition of this drawing. I used the dominant lines from my field sketches to layout on some Fabriano paper the landscape using gesso and a broad brush.Once the gesso was dry I was ready to recreate my rainy walk.
