Pear Conference
Conference Pears placed on white paper and drawn with marker pens. I enjoyed the shapes of these lovely pears and placed them in a sort of dance I suppose. It is fun to build layers of colours with these particular pens, in doing so the softness of the shadows becomes more descriptive.
I am told that this variety was developed in Britain by Thomas Francis Rivers at his nursery in a place called Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. There was a National British Pear Conference in the U.K. back in 1885 and the Conference Pear won and was named “the Conference” pear as a result.
This part of Britain was owned and run by a powerful Anglo-Saxon named Ansgar the Staller. He had fought at the battle of Hastings in 1066 and survived. He was badly wounded however.
