Apples and pears
The title is based on the Cockney rhyming slang for stairs… if it were a portrait of my wife it would be.. yes you know it…trouble and strife!
As with several of my still life drawings of fruit the exercise is about colour and form and line… and many other things too. For me the most important element is the opportunity to reflect and think with my subject in front of me.
These marker pens are great fun to use and they allow layers of colour and tone to work together in rather an unusual way. I genuinely believe that it is good to try different media and techniques on a regular basis. Firstly to discover and explore, also to add to ones “quiver of tools” that help describe a subject. I love the feel and sound of materials on a surface they all have their own characters and nuances. I shall certainly be having another go with these delightful pens. i have drawn on a textured oil painting paper so i can enjoy the surface of the paper as much as the feel of the pens.
We are working on bringing some these still life drawings to be available as postcards and posters.
A bounteous harvest is something to relish at this time of year. What better than to spend some carefully observing the creations of Mother Nature.
