I set off first thing in the morning to draw this two other pieces. a very cold day for the South West of the U.K. I headed for the Saltmarsh on the Sharpham Estate. When I arrived and looked across the river Dart it was heavenly. I had this spot to myself. I take a back pack with me, to carry a few drawing things and various papers cut to the sizes I might like. I have found that the paper needs to be quite heavy. The use of site specific pigments and found tools makes this important.

As you can see from the additional images the work is initiated with materials that connect me to the place and the seasons. The soil here was very cold and wet and has a particular smell to it too. The reeds themselves, be it a fallen leaf or the reed stems are tools to use in my process.

In the additional details you can see the texture that the use of found pigments has brought to the work. Bringing the place and time closer to the viewer.
