These flowers of Spring last into the Summer months giving such a beautiful show outside my studio doors. I could not resist popping some Siberian Iris stems in a vase with the Salvia and drawing this still life. The proud stems of the Siberian Iris juxtaposed with soft downy foliage of the Salvia, (from the Latin Salvare to save). The Iris Siberica  a name given by Carl Linnaeus, the Swedish botanist and zoologist who is known as the "father of taxonomy." Iris in fact means rainbow in Greek, this refers to the range colours the Iris can be found in.

Iris flower also symbolizes passion, determination, and relentless hope to fight adversities. People choose this flower to convey their admiration and deep passion for their friends and loved ones

The idea of drawing regular still life compositions for me anyway, is that it not only means one is practising drawing but also working on composition, both of these skills are key for drawing landscapes when out walking.
