Mon chouchou

It was raining and we expected a storm to arrive here in the South west of England. The market  was quiet as many traders and shoppers were hiding from the rain. The savoy cabbages were packed in wooden crates with their luscious emerald leaves covered with sparkling drops of water. The crinkled leafy green fronds nestling the paler crown in their midst. I do enjoy the changing seasons and all that they offer us as the years grow around us.

 In many cultures there is a sweet tale around cabbages and children, that links the fact that the heart of the cabbage resembles a baby’s head. Mon chouchou is sweet term of endearment in French for a child or to say my darling.

These are drawn with marker pens on paper to give a more graphic and energised image. The flatter forms of marker pen work may well lend itself to reproducing these images in other formats.
