February flowers

A roll of lovely Fabriano Artistico arrived at the studio today. I could not resist enjoying some still life time with willow charcoal and soft Rembrandt pastels. 

The sound of mark making on the surface of this 300gsm paper is so very alluring. Moving the willow charcoal with my finger, feeding the tooth on the paper and gently adding colour with the soft Rembrandt pastels, provided a truly wonderful series of sounds and sensations. Extraordinary and so very rewarding creatively, the joy of incorporating the wider sensations is seemingly boundless.

The idea of drawing regular still life compositions for me anyway, is that not only does this mean one is practising drawing. But just as importantly working on composition, both these skills are key for drawing landscapes when out walking, or still lifes.
