This mixed media work was fun and challenging to create, a desire to get the viewer to search the surface for meaning. The buildings of a bygone age, the testament to an industrial past in this part of the city of Bristol. This body of emerging work was the result of a change of room in an hotel to get a better view of the cityscape.

I spent quite a while drawing this view with pencils and liquid graphite. I have always taken materials with me or sound something to draw with. The drawings for this little series were to capture the essence of the industrial views and the far reaching skylines. The view is predominantly manmade but tucked in there are organic shapes of trees or parks. these organic shapes can be reflected in the glass of the buildings or made it on a far city horizon.

The viewer can see where either gesso or a pumice ground have been added for interesting textures. A crane in ink, pen and paint seems to scratch at the surface. The brick red and terracotta colours sit will with the grey and blues.
