Totnes Downhill.
Walking from Totnes up the hill towards Fishchowter’s lane, (a route that may have been used by tradesman to avoid paying taxes) or towards the village of Ashprington outside Totnes there are some wonderful views. Looking toward the hills at Marldon there are a tapestry of fields that are worked hard throughout the year, the seasons are so well reflected in the colours that this view takes on.
Drawn on pastel paper using some found site specific natural pigments and tools. Making fast gestural marks to simplify the rhythms and lines in an effort to understand the way the fields are arranged.
Then I work in to some of the field sketches back in the studio in preparation for a painting.
Offered here is a print of the original mixed media drawing that has caused great interest.
