Quince on a stand
I have drawn quinces many times in different media. Why? Because the form of the fruit with its angled shoulders when drawn in a square gives the opportunity to explore composition and “subject” within the surface of the paper.
In this little charcoal still life which is on Fabriano Artistico paper the shadows play a game with the shape of the fruit. This is part of a much larger series which may very well may end up totalling a whopping great seven metres in length. I often focus very much on one subject until I feel I have fully understood it. I do believe this will be the case with my dear friends the quinces. If you dare to pop back again, there may very be more to see, do stay in touch.
